Brady Geraghty, a sophomore at Fossil Ridge High School, has a life that is full of potential and future goals. He was born on July 2, 2000, in Boulder, Colorado and then moved to Fort Collins. He later moved to Denver for his eighth grade year and returned to Fort Collins for high school. Geraghty is a lover of animals (particularly cats), art in various forms, and good music. His future goal, the one he’s had ever since he could remember, is to become a veterinarian. “I’ve always dreamed of becoming a vet and going to Colorado State University to the vet program there.” This is what currently motivates him to do good in school and to succeed.

“The vet school is so competitive to get into, I have to work hard to get into CSU and eventually to the vet school.” Geraghty owns two cats that he appreciates greatly. They are one of the inspirations for him wanting to become a vet. He enjoys taking care of them and just being a pet owner in general. His love for animals has been a major push in his career choice. “Animals fascinate me and I have always loved taking care of them.” Geraghty plans to take the Veterinarian Tech Program offered by Front Range Community College and to take anatomy as a senior. “I feel like those classes would be the most helpful for me. I want to get as much experience as possible.”

Aside from animals, Geraghty is also a lover of art. This last semester he took pottery, and to him it was a really exciting and fun class. “The physical art we made and what we could make out of clay were both things I enjoyed the most.” Pottery was a class that he felt was where he could be the most creative. The freedom to create whatever he wanted to out of a material was something he found interesting. Geraghty enjoyed his freshmen art class, Design Foundations of Art, as well. “I liked learning about all the different mediums possible for art and what you could do with them.” Not only did he take those two art classes, he also took Photography. “I love photography and capturing moments. I think it’s so cool to be able to do that.” The avid creator also took a metals class and found that to be an interesting change from the more gentle nature of the regular art classes.

Looking at Fossil as a whole, Geraghty feels like this school tends to be open and accepting of different people and identities. “Being openly gay at this school, I find that it tends to be accepting and the people here are generally nice. Of course there are the people who are against me but they seem to be few.” He looks at this school as one that is making strides to be more inclusive and inviting. “Teachers talk more about diversity and they will even set rules against people being rude and disrespectful about other people. I think that’s so awesome.” So far his experience at this school has been one that he has enjoyed for the majority of it.
