Volleyball wins their first state championship

Tears were shed and trophies were thrust into the air as the Fossil Ridge High School volleyball team won their first state championship title on Saturday, November 12. Having never made it into the Final Four, let alone win the state title, this victorious weekend was hands down the best in Fossil’s history.

The anticipation had set in as every single division stepped onto their court for their final game. On the other side of the court Fossil’s players could see those of Mountain Vista through the holes of the net, and were ready to get it on. Vista took the early lead but that didn’t stop Fossil; the Sabercats quickly tied it up but then fell behind again.. It wasn’t until the end of the set that Fossil pulled away winning the first set 25-21, taking one step closer to becoming state champs.

The following two sets swayed back and forth in favor of both teams, and the game seemed as though either of the schools could take the win.

It wasn’t until the fourth set that Fossil had a huge comeback sending the game into a fifth set.

Not a single fan was sitting down when the fifth set had begun. Fossil took an immediate lead but the tension was evident on every player’s face as they all knew that that was the deciding set. It seemed as though  Fossil was going to win as the girls scored point after point, leaving Vista in the dust. While Vista did manage to score some points, Fossil was too far ahead. It’s was final spike from Fossil that sent the girls rushing onto the court and Vista into tears. Fossil took the state champion title with a final score of 15-9 after a very long and nail-biting game.
