Why Lobo Lacrosse?

Why Lobo Lacrosse?

Rocky Mountain Lobo lacrosse is the new name for high school lacrosse in the Northern Colorado region. Ever since the organization started, the Lobo lacrosse team went by another name, Fort Collins Unified lacrosse.

Why change the name? The reason resides behind the athletic director. According to Lobos lacrosse player Ben Rugh, “The previous director, Ron Alexander was recently dismissed from his employment last year. Following up to that, Russ Mckinstry, has been appointed as the new athletic director.”

Although the name singles out one high school in the district, there is a substantial amount of players that will tryout from Fossil. “Don’t let the name fool you” replied Rugh, “we still have plenty of players coming from different schools around the district.”

The Lobo name will have to live up to the Fort Collins Unified name. To Rugh, the name gives new meaning to the team, “It’s better than the old name because it gives the team an identity. It is nice to be able to associate with a school. Even though it’s not the one I go to.”

The Lobos opening game is on March 9th against Windsor at French Field. Come out to support your local high school lacrosse team.
