NAHS adds color to Homecoming dance

Fossil Ridge High School’s National Art Honor Society gets the privilege every year of knowing the Homecoming theme before the rest of the student body so that they can make decorations in time for Spirit Week and the dance. This year, Karen Manley and Olivia Doro were in charge of organizing the Homecoming prep, and NAHS members stayed after school in order to work on props for the dance, signs for the Homecoming courts, and the theme reveal poster. For the dance, the members created cardboard cutouts of planes, taxis, and street signs, along with little trinkets to hang from the gym ceiling. All of this happened within one night, and Doro stated, “It has a lot of work but we got it all done.” For many members, it is greatly satisfying to see their artwork hanging in the Commons and at the dance. Students who enjoy art and want to participate in an event like this can join Art Club, which meets after school on Tuesdays, and take art classes to qualify for NAHS. Annabeth Sarbacker, junior and NAHS Historian, said, “We spend a handful of hours jamming out to music and making art together which is really fun and then we end up with some great pieces of art that we all collaborated on. That’s my favorite part, that we all work together so well.”
