Boys’ soccer: First playoff game a win

On Oct. 24 the boys’ soccer team won their first playoff game against Grandview. The score was a tight game until junior Andy Hoyt scored in the first 20 minutes of the second half. That gave FRHS an incredible lead to win.

During the second half senior Josh King got hurt while he was goalkeeper. Travis Horner from Grandview ran into King, hurting his ankle. Two minutes later King got rammed into for the second time giving him a mild concussion. King is out for the next playoff game.

Senior back up goalie Justin Aguero filled in and took the field for King. The weather was brutal and this was not Aguero’s dream game. He said, “When Josh got hurt, I felt really scared but I made my first save and it really boosted my confidence up.”

He knew that he had to hold the team’s lead here or he would’ve cost the game for his teammates. The snow blowing in his face, he made five saves.

The ball was in Fossil’s territory almost the whole second half after Hoyt scored. The defense, led by senior Trevor Quintana did their best by holding the Wolves from a far enough distance to help Aguero. The team as a whole succeeded in putting pressure on Grandview’s offense. Quintana said, “We are confident in our offense, it’s our defense that we would like to improve on.”

The next game is against Fairview on Monday, Oct. 29. Aguero is playing goalie for tonight’s game. This will be his only game as a starting varsity goalkeeper.
