Fossil Ridge High School defeated the other two Fort Collins teams going into their biggest rivalry game of the season on Tuesday, January 30. Kenny Smith said, “Before specifically we’ve trained  all week and prepared all week for what they were going to do and what they can do. And we executed our game plan perfectly.” They did execute their game plan perfectly dominating Fort Collins High School and winning the City Sweep.

The Fossil defense utterly dominated Collins with turnover after turnover, stealing the ball and running it up the court. Every missed shot by the Lambkins was a steal and chance for another shot by the Sabercats. But, it wasn’t just the amazing defense from Fossil but the teamwork and leadership from every member that contributed to the win.

In the last quarter Fossil played it’s younger members and they took the court by storm. Making free throws and trying to make every shot that they saw. The diversity among players who stepped on the court contributed to Fossil’s win and got the team out of their funk from losing to Horizon High School. Captain Ashley Steffeck said, “When we lost against Horizon we were kind of in a funk for awhile, you could tell in practices and in games. Then the past two practices it was great and we were getting excited to play Collins, big game, big crowd, lots of energy happening. So I think this really motivated us and got us back on track.”

These girls always come out to play and are looking good going into the playoff season. Come support your city champions at their next game against Boulder High School in the Fossil main gym Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 P.M.
