Lambkins get pinned by the Sabercats

A city rival wrestling dual went down on Thursday, January 25 between Fossil Ridge High School and Fort Collins High School. For the Sabercats, this was the last crosstown rival dual and they were determined to grab their first win against a city rival.

The wrestling mats at Collins held the individual matches and Fossil accomplished their goal that they had going into the dual by pinning Collins with a final team score of 47-29.

The dual started at the weight class of 152 pounds, Austin Yeager won by pin in 28 seconds. The next two matches the Sabercats won by forfeit; Jackson Holloway for the weight class of 160 pounds and Jason Brockway for the weight class of 170 pounds. Fossil took their fourth win after Nathan Meyer pinned his opponent in a minute and 15 seconds for the 182 pound weights class. Following the double back-to-back wins, the Sabercats lead the Lambkins 24-0.

Fossil took their first loss of the night as Ian Sampson was defeated by Tech Fall 18-2 for the weight class of 195 pounds. The dual moved to the 220 pounds where Nick Sanchez also lost 3-4. The Sabercats continued to hold the lead 24-10 after Fossil forfeited in HWT, ending the heavyweight matches.

Marshall Scott wrestles for the 106 pounds weight class but could not wrestle due to a skin condition and not passing the health inspection so the Sabercats’ lead got slimmer; 24-20.

Hunter Geist-Sanchez extended the team score by 5 aftering winning by Tech Fall 15-0 in the 113 pounds weight class. Brian Foundoulis followed in the 120 pounds weight class and got pinned in a minute and 30 seconds by his opponent, making the team scores 29-26. Kevin Meyer was up next for the 126 weight class and won by pin in 5 minutes and 57 seconds. As the dual began to come to an end the 132 weight class was one of the three final matches, Brayden Wess lost 5-1.

The last two matches of the night resulted in wins for the Sabercats; Zach Klingner won by pin in 2 minutes and 29 seconds for the 130 weight class and Cody Ginther won by pin in 4 minutes and 29 seconds for the 145 weight class. The night came to a close with Fossil on top, defeating Collins 47-29.

The wrestling team will compete one last time on Fossil mats before the arrival of the regional and state tournaments. They will come back to compete on Thursday, February 1 against Greeley West, which will also be senior night so come out and support the seniors in their final home dual.
