Fossil Ridge High School suffered a 0-3 shutout on Thursday, March 29 at home after senior captain Kenady Adams suffered an injury on her left leg in the first five minutes. Adams had torn her right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) when playing Rocky Mountain High School last season at French Field. A terrible flashback to the injury that took her out of her junior season Adams face mirrored the terror and pain of possibly suffering the same injury. The Sabercats loss of such a prominent player so early on caused them to lose their mental focus for the game.

The first half began with a major player loss that threw Fossil off their game and allowed the Lobos to score. Rocky  scored another goal in the first half and the Sabercats struggled to keep up. While their opponents were playing as a team and communicating Fossil wasn’t playing together and were out of sync as a team. Towards the end of the first half senior captain Haley Rockwell was given a yellow card that took her out of the game for ten minutes. It was a combination of reliving the injury Adams suffered and having it happen while playing the same team it had happened with last season that put Fossil into a funk that lasted the whole game. The Sabercats trailed behind Rocky 0-2 at half.

Again Fossil played strong in the beginning but soon lost confidence and began to play sloppily. This bad play allowed Rocky to dominate the field and make numerous shots on net. However the Sabercat’s goalkeeper blocked, punched, and dove to save the ball. It was the saves and strong playing that kept Fossil from trailing behind the Lobos even more. Once more though Rocky scored and put Fossil down three to zero. Although the Sabercats fought and stepped up their game in the end they couldn’t make a comeback, they lost the game 0-3.

The girls will play Fort Collins High School next Tuesday, April 2 at French Field at 6:30 P.M. Come out and support the Sabercats as they take on crosstown rival Fort Collins
