5 things to do this Spring Break if you’re staying home

Spring Break is the time of year when vacations are planned and foreign adventures ensue. However, just because you may be spending time at home doesn’t mean the adventures of Spring Break are non-existent. Here’s five things you can do this Spring Break to ease the boredom and increase the memories.

1.Go on a Hike. We have a sprawling and jaw dropping mountain range just in our backyards, and missing out on the beauty the Rockies have to offer is a huge bummer. Have you checked out the graffiti caves up at Horsetooth? You need to soon because rumor has it, the city of Fort Collins has been talking about painting over the artistic statements. (Which sounds a little redundant because aren’t they ruining nature too?) Check out this list of the Top 10 Hikes in the Rocky Mountains to get you started on your mountain adventure.

2.Go on a Photo-walk. What is a photo-walk? Well, all you need is your feet, some supportive shoes, and a camera. You can walk around the city taking pictures, just like you were in a foreign country. The best spots in Fort Collins: Old Town, The Environmental Learning Center (ELC,) and even Horsetooth. This will help open your mind to what our city has to offer and may even make you fall more in love with Northern Colorado. (These pictures were taken on a photo-walk in Old Town. )

3.Pretend You’re a Tourist. Yeah, you may live here, but you could be missing out on all the things Fort Collins has to offer. Did you know we have a Museum of Discovery, countless spas, and even a Haunted Game Cafe? Try something that you wouldn’t normally think about doing as a resident! The Lincoln Center also has tons of new plays all year long, it’s not broadway, but its not boring TV on your couch at home.

4.Go Thrift-Hopping. Here in FoCo we have a nice selection of thrift stores, which are great for Thrift-Hopping. Thrift-Hopping is when you grab your wallet, a couple friends and go to every thrift shop you can find. Some people have no idea what kind of treasures you can find in a thrift store. (Platos Closet even counts; and they have boy clothes!) Whether it be a neon fanny pack, a Columbia jacket, or a 1980s wedding dress, you’re sure to find something randomly amazing and worth having for cheap.

5.Netflix? Netflix.  When all else fails, there will always be the best thing to come home to and snuggle up with with during break. No, I’m not talking about your dog or even your boyfriend/girlfriend. I’m talking about Netflix. Being the gift from the heavens it is, Netflix will support you all break no matter what mood you’re in for as little as $7.99 a month. Want to cry? Titanic is on Netflix. Want to laugh? The Interview, Parks and Rec, and Bobs Burgers are all on Netflix. Want to be scared? American Horror Story seasons 1-3 are on Netflix. Want to watch some dramatic “real-life” shows? There’s 212 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. Whatever you’re feeling, Netflix has it. Don’t watch TV the whole time though, get out there and try at least one of the things listed above, you won’t regret it.
