Fossil’s marching band received second place in the overall Legacy High School host competition on September 26. With Air Academy in first and Fairview High School in third, Fossil was proud to be among the top three with a final score of 76.25.
Noting the bands foundation and strength in teamwork, many band members commented on the committed preparation going into Fossil’s first marching band competition at Five Star Stadium in Thornton, Colorado. “My hard work paid off personally,” commented Kyle Senior, a junior veteran of the band, “I was determined not to make blunders that would affect my peers and ultimately the entire band.” Personal responsibility during practices and competitions was an important trait stressed by many individuals, not only Senior. After all, the entire marching band being accountable for its levels of professionalism and excellence are credited toward its members.
Senior also mentioned the visual improvements that could be developed further into the season. Supporting his statement, Andy Blomfelt, a senior veteran specified, “We need to focus on our individual marching styles.” Fossil’s marching band is well known for their advanced musical skills and are less concerned about their performance in music. The members are now putting more effort into their visual presentations.
The marching band is at an advantage in the season when compared to previous years. “We have all of the show completed,” stated, Serena Bettis, a sophomore, “we can now only keep getting better.” With that in mind, the band is excited to move forward in the season.
Fossil’s marching band is not settling for mediocrity and is continuing to go beyond reaching their full potential. Already looking ahead to the finals state competition, there is not a moment to lose for more practice and improvements.
