Fossil Ridge DECA participants competed in their first meet at the Colorado State Invitational on Monday October 5th. The Colorado State Invitational hosted schools from all over the state and gave high school business students the opportunity to compete against each other as well as tour Colorado State’s School of Business. Competitive DECA events can range from financial analysis to restaurant and food categories.

There were many participants from Fossil that placed in their respective events. Katie Hinze and Erinn Hogan placed third in the category of buying and merchandising. In financial analysis, Jaret Anderson and Anthony Petrino won first place. Jocelyn Ruiz and Meggie Kurth also took home the third place prize in financial analysis. Another third place prize won by Fossil was in the category of hospitality services where Julia Quaid and Mille Giles led the presentation.

Showing his true math whiz skills, Paul Marrick placed third in accounting applications. Emilio Chavez demonstrated his vast knowledge of the automobile industry which helped him win first in automotive services. More first place prizes were won by Ella Devenny in business services, Alex Crane in human resource management, and Neil Rowan in restaurant and food. A couple more silver medals were won with Anders Olsen placing second in personal financial literacy and Kaylee Menefee placing second in restaurant and food.

Fossil Ridge DECA was very excited with how well they did in the first competition of the year. DECA’s next event is the Stock Market Challenge hosted in the Roundhouse on October 20th at 6 pm. Any student is eligible to participate even if you are not part of DECA. Participants will pick the stocks they see being successful in a short term period. Stockholders with the highest earnings will win cash prizes and gift certificates. Students can see if they have what it takes to win an award in business. We already know DECA members have what it takes to win.

I liked the choice of picture. I also liked how you included some of the top competitors from the chapter. It really helps to know who won as opposed to just how there was a competition. I also liked the inclusion of future events the chapter is putting on.

I love this article, I think it is very useful and informational. I like how you mentioned all of the top competitors from Fossil and how they did in their event categories. Its helpful to know how everyone did and how Fossil is represented in DECA events throughout the year.
