December, the month of hot cocoa and snow. We decided to switch it up a bit this month. Not only are we doing songs that remind us of the month, we are doing a throwback month! All your favorite songs from the 90s and early 2000s.

Snow-Red Hot Chili Peppers

Kicking off throwback month with some Red Hot Chili Peppers. It came out in 2006, when everyone was starting to jam to this band. We chose snow because of the chill vibes, not to mention the title definitely reflects winter in Colorado.

Short Skirt Long Jacket – Cake

Short skirt long jacket was a throwback definite for our December playlist. We wanted to encompass a smooth song that has a wintery feel, and this song came to our brains instantly. It is no wonder we still listen to this song today.

Clumsy- Fergie

Fergie is the epitome of throwback for everyone who grew up in the early 2000s. This song definitely has early traces of electric swing, it isn’t a surprise that this song was a huge hit then and is still on many people’s IPods. Not to mention, she was definitely the original Taylor Swift, putting monologues in the middle of her song.

I’ll Be Home for Christmas – Kelly Clarkson

We decided to go with some classic Kelly Clarkson with this hit. We chose this one specifically because December is known for the holiday season. Kelly’s beautiful range and stunning riffs are a perfect addition to our playlist.

Pon De Replay – Rihanna

Pon De Replay is a classic addition to our playlist. Anyone who grew up in the 2000s heard this song constantly on the radio. 2005 was a big year for Rihanna as she really started to grow a following with this album. This is the biggest hit on the album, and was really what started picking up her career.

Slide – Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls are exploring the more 90s section of throwback rather than the 00s. It has a classic throwback vibe and we loved the different, more rock tone to add to our playlist.

Sweet Escape – Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani, the queen of sass is still around making appearances and music. We had to do a song that included her, and what better than Sweet Escape? This is one of her biggest hits, and we have no doubt that you have jammed to this song one time or another.

It’s Gonna Be Me – ‘NSYNC

“NSYNC is the most throwback popular band we could think of. We chose It’s Gotta Be Me because of its classic vibe. We didn’t choose Bye Bye Bye because we wanted to show people a little more of ‘NSYNC’s music, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to it though.

Semi-Charmed Life-Third Eye Blind

Semi-Charmed Life is a perfect addition as it falls in the late 90s, almost 00s time period which is exactly what we are looking for in this throwback playlist. The boppy rock vibe is fun to dance to whenever you just need a song to rock out to.

The Great Escape – Boys like Girls

Finally, we have a song that is close to our time, 2007’s The Great Escape by Boys like Girls. This song is a perfect because it is very recent and still gives us the feelings that it did back in 2007.
