Freshman Macy Schultz as recently been invited to try out for the US National soccer team. “The national team is a soccer team that is formed by the best players at that age group in the United States. There are different age groups of the team and the youngest age group there is, is U16 or under 16 and the highest is the first team which is the team that is professional and plays in the actual world cup.”

Getting invited shows that you are one of the best players in your state for your age group. The team’s first tryout is February 20-27 in Carson, California. The tryouts take an entire week and if you pass through the tryouts you will get asked back to play in a practice game.

This team travels all over, but is based out of Carson, California. The team works on a rigorous schedule of two practices a day with a recovery day every Wednesday. The team plays Costa Rica for their first game of the season and travels all over to play international teams. Twenty-six people get invited and Macy says the best part so far has just been how exciting it is been to get invited, and the process of preparing for tryouts.

Since getting the email Macy has trained every day to prepare for the tryouts at the end of February. She is most nervous about playing with really talented players. But Macy, who has played on an upper level team for years is ready for the challenge.

Although it is still a ways away, Macy hopes to play in college. She wants to attend either Santa Clara University or Oregon for soccer after graduating in 2019.

Being invited to play within a program as well known and high ranking as the National team is a great honor for any athlete, let alone a freshman in high school. Her talent is being noticed by other coaches and teams opening doors left and right for this rising soccer star.

Wish Macy luck as she heads into tryouts this coming week to become the next Nationals team member!
