The Preston, Boltz and Kinard eighth grade students visited Fossil on Thursday and Friday to learn about their next four years of schooling.

The students were first ushered in by Student Ambassadors who welcomed them with a tunnel straight into the PAC where they were greeted by the FRHS Jazz Band who played a musical piece and solos for the students to listen to.

All future saber cats then split into two groups. One to tour the school and ask questions. They got to spend time with an actual Fossil student who they could learn from and get to know.

Group two stayed in the Performing Arts center to hear Mr. Peterson and Ms. Alvarado go over all the available classes for next year. They also talked about the ‘fun’ classes that are considered art, music, woodworking, tv etc. They learned where they can go to get help, what credits count for graduation and how they can change their schedules every year to fit their passion.

After these groups switched they returned to the PAC to watch a video made by Ridge TV about what it’s like to be a freshman. They watched the cheerleader’s national performance and got to catch a glimpse of the first scenes of the school’s musical West Side Story premiering in April.

These soon to be saber cats were nervous and excited as they got to see a glimpse of their future. Many said “I have been here for two minutes and am already lost.” The school is big, but the community is welcoming and can’t wait for the baby cats to join the Ridge next year.
