Fossil’s Knowledge Bowl team pushed through a tough season in order to receive a national title.

On Saturday November 12, Knowledge Bowl had its first competition. The first team took second place, while second tied for fourth and the third team placed fifth. All three teams competed well and are on their way to great things this season.

Because of the team’s success last year, qualifying for nationals but lacking the funding to go, sophomore David Salmon is very optimistic about the remainder of the season. “I think we are looking like being a top contender for state this year. After losing 12 seniors from the club we are currently rebuilding.“

Knowledge Bowl is a trivia based club that competes across the state and nationally, if they qualify. Students are asked questions across a huge variety of topics, and often rely on anticipating the end of the question so they can answer before it’s even read. Students could be asked, “Who is the current president of Finland?” (Sauli Niinistö) or “This 18th century English painter is considered one of the great masters of portraiture which is evident in such paintings as his Mrs. Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and The Blue Boy.” (Thomas Gainsborough), and must be able to answer fast.

“Getting second at the first meet of the year is impressive and we are still improving and striving to keep our title of number one in the state,” said Salmon. In the meets of the upcoming months, Knowledge Bowl intends to bring the same intensity that got them through the first.
