FBLA dominates districts

FBLA dominates districts

On Wednesday, February 8, Fossil Ridge High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed in districts. Fossil won 72 top 5 placements, 52 students qualified for regionals, 10 double-qualified (in two events), and 8 qualified through written submissions.

Competitor Melissa Rauwerdink explained, “There’s different kinds of events, like role plays, public and impromptu speeches, production events and tests that people compete in for the best score.”

Rauwerdink went on to describe her favorite event. “ I really like entrepreneurship. In this event my team and I are given a scenario for a business and are asked to fix certain problems or give certain suggestions on how the business can improve. We then present these suggestions in front of a panel of judges. I like it because I not only have improved my public speaking but also allows me to analyze specific issues in a business that I could very well experience in real life, in the work force.”

Olivia Scott reflected on the importance of FBLA, saying they get to, “gain business experience. [We] dress and act the role of a professional business man or woman, learn from peers and guest speakers, and present your business leadership skills.

“Overall I believe Fossil Ridge had a very successful performance as a team and as individuals throughout the competition. A large portion of Fossil students qualified for state and many took first place in their events,” said Scott.

State will be held April 19-21 in Vail. Best of luck Sabercats!
