The Student News Site of Fossil Ridge High School

Karen Manley

Karen Manley, a junior, has been in the journalism program for two years. She is most in her comfort zone when she is writing about academics throughout Fossil Ridge High School. This year, as the News Director, Karen is in charge of making sure Etched in Stone is covering all of the important aspects of the school and being informed with the events going on. She explains, “I am a very social person. I don’t have an issue with talking to people in an interview, I think being the News Director is a good fit for me.”

The aspiring journalist was born in San Diego, California and moved to Colorado when she was 14 years old. Manley lives with her mom, dad, and little brother. She enjoys watching movies, going on bike rides, and playing board games with her family. She loves hiking and being  outdoors, and she loves Colorado because it is an accepting place and a good environment for a high school student. Manley knows she wants to further her education after high school but she is not exactly sure where she wants to go. Her dream school would be somewhere in a city where she can experience new things and meet new people. Manley’s top choice would be NYU. Her hope is to get a degree in Journalism and become a war journalist. Manley wants to write about war journalism because she believes those are the types of stories people are afraid to tell.

Her passion is journalism and she can’t wait to be more involved in the school this year. Manley loves writing because “you get to tell stories of people that live in a community, I get to know people in a different way than most people do.”
