On Saturday, October 28, the Colorado Bandmasters Association held the State band competition at Falcon Stadium. After working on this show for months, 160 nervous Fossil students drove down to Colorado Springs Friday night with all their instruments and equipment to compete with their show “(4) Ever Green” the next day. Fossil performs in the 5A category, which is the top competition level.

5A performs at night, so the band waited patiently for their turn, finally performing their show at around 5:30. After semi finals, the Fossil band was tied with Legacy High School, our main rival. Fossil pushed forward. The final competition landed them in second place out of seven total bands. The final score was 86.46, only losing by 1.24 points to Legacy.

Many seniors had a lot of mixed feelings about their placing. Everett Shryock, a saxophone, stated, “Although it didn’t finish how I wanted to, I couldn’t be more proud of how well we did. Looking back at the start of marching
band this year, I would’ve never thought
about how far we’ve come as a group. I  know a lot of us are disappointed but there is nothing to fret about. I can tell that this band is in good hands for next year and will accomplish great things in the future.”

Congratulations to everyone who participated.
