Fossil Ridge High School destroyed their competition in the second round of playoff games following a two week bi from the first round. “I think they’ll take care of business, we’ve had two weeks of preparation, we had the first round bi, so they’re rested and ready to go,” Head Coach Chad Salz said when asked how he thought the girls would perform. The coach’s words were true when Fossil beat Rangeview High School 75-47 and advanced to the Sweet 16 where they will play no. 9 Mountain Vista High School Tuesday at 6:30 P.M.

Currently Fossil is ranked no. 8 in the Sweet 16, however as Fossil continues to advance the other competitors worth playing are too. No. 5 Highlands Ranch High School has won their first two games and will play  no. 12 Fairview High School on Tuesday as well. If the Sabercats win the State Championship it would be the first time in the school’s history that any Fossil Ridge basketball team has won the title.

Amazing performances came from the freshman and sophomores on the team as well as the upperclassmen. The girls gave the game every bit of saved up energy they had from their two week bi and led Rangeview 33-17 at half. When the game ended Fossil had upped it’s score by more than twice that of their halftime score, finishing 75-47 to advance to the third round. As usual team captain Ashley Steffeck had an outstanding game, scoring 26 points and making numerous steal throughout to run up the ball.
