Emily VanGundy

Emily VanGundy, a senior, began her first year on the Etched in Stone staff writing for the Sports Beat among her busy life as an avid soccer player. She plays for Colorado Rush DA as the starting goalkeeper and is starting to receive offers to play college soccer. Her hard work and dedication to the sport began when she was five years old, and when VanGundy turned nine she realized that she wanted to play soccer for as long as she can

When VanGundy is not at school or on the soccer field she is probably spending time with her yellow lab named Finn, or reconnecting with herself. VanGundy loves spending time by herself to escape from her incredibly hectic schedule. Her favorite way to wind down is to deepen her faith and allow herself to become immersed in her religion.  VanGundy’s family is close, she lives with her mom and younger sister Jillian. Although Alaina, her older sister, lives on the University of Northern Colorado campus, they work together every summer and stay in touch throughout the year, so they still have a close relationship.

After high school, VanGundy wants to pursue a degree in business. When questioned, she said “At some point in my life I want to own a successful business, you know, so I can give back to everyone who gave to me and my family”. She currently does not know what her business will focus on, but with her strong will Emily’s dreams are only a little ways away.
