The Fossil Ridge soccer team beat their crosstown rival Rocky Mountain Lobos, as they look to take home the city title in six years.

The game got off to a slow start, as the game entered halftime 0-0. Fossil would control possession, but were unable to score.

The Sabercats came out of halftime with a higher intensity, and started getting more shots on net. These improvements would pay off, as Fossil would score twice in the second half, defeating the Lobos 2-0.

This is a big bounceback win for the Sabercats, as they lost on the road to Fairview 2-1 on October 12. This win helps reinstill confidence within the team, improving their record to 8-5(5-3 in conference play).

With Rocky being an in-town opponent, it becomes much more personal to the Fossil players.

“It feels great, especially knowing a bunch of my club soccer buddies are on the team, cross town rival…it’s a different type of intensity…you know how hard they can go, you push their limits, they push yours. It just creates great soccer,” said senior captain Peyton Hoyt.

With this win against Rocky, Fossil improves to 2-0 against in-town teams, as they also beat Poudre earlier this season. This puts them on a collision course against Fort Collins, who have also beaten Rocky and Poudre. Fossil will play Collins next on October 20, on the Sabercats senior night. Senior Peyton Hoyt spoke about his anticipation for the upcoming matchup.

“…we just have to finish off Collins on Wednesday to be city champs…it’s definitely nerves, but a lot of excitement too. But I think we’ll get it done,” said Hoyt.
