Fossil Ridge team meeting after the game

The Fossil football team lost their senior night game to the Fairview Knights 25-23.

Both teams started the game strong, as they both got inside the red zone.

However, neither team scored a touchdown, as Fossil made a field goal while Fairview had their attempt blocked.

In addition to the blocked field goal, Fossil blocked two more extra points in a nightmare for the Fairview kicker.

The offenses continued to dominate the first half, as no team was forced to punt. The Knights scored a touchdown with under a minute in the half, to lead Fossil 13-10 at halftime.

Both teams converted touchdown drives coming out of halftime. Fossil failed a 2-point conversion, while the Knights had their 2nd extra point of the night blocked, keeping the Fairview lead 19-16.

The turning point came late in the third, as Fairview were able to recover an onside kick. This play gave an extra possession to the Knights, which they would turn into another touchdown, and a 25-16 lead.

Fossil scored another touchdown with six minutes in the fourth quarter, but the Sabercats weren’t able to secure a defensive stop, as the Knights held onto the lead.

Fossil falls to 3-5(2-1 in league play) and ends the year 1-3 at home. The Sabercats have struggled in these tight games, going 0-2 in games decided by 3 or less.

The Sabercats will look to bounce back against cross-town rivals Rocky Mountain next Friday, October 22.
