Fossil’s basketball team now improves to 11-1, tying their record from last year at this point

Fossil’s Boys Basketball Team was pushed to the limit, scraping out a 76-71 victory against rival Rocky Mountain.

A big factor going into this game was the fact that these two teams are considered the best in Fort Collins. They played twice last year, with both teams winning one game each. That loss against Rocky was Fossil’s only regular season loss of the 2020-21 season.

The game was close the entire time, as the lead was usually no more than five points. The Sabercats led at halftime 37-33, but the game was far from over. The third quarter was a defensive struggle, with the teams only combining for 27 points. Fossil still led 50-47, but could feel Rocky crawling back into the game.

The Sabercats held on in a high scoring fourth quarter, winning their ninth home game in a row. Fossil guard Ty Brown understood the importance of the game and helped execute their game plan, leading the Sabercats to victory.

“The key was defense and rebounding…this game meant so much to us,” Brown said.

Brown was a key-contributor, working hard on the defensive end and scoring a career-high 14 points in the win. Brown did his damage from the three-point line, draining four threes, another career high for the Junior guard.

“I’ve been pretty off lately, but I knew this was going to be a big game, so I’m glad I came through,” Brown said.

The Sabercats extend their winning streak to six and improve to 11-1, tying their record from last year through twelve games. Fossil Ridge will have no games for a week, before starting conference play on the road against Mountain Range on Friday, January 14.
