The sixth ranked Fort Collins Lambkins played to a 4-4 tie against the second ranked Regis Jesuit Raiders.

Collins and Regis played the first period evenly, still tied at 0-0 with five seconds left in the period. The Lambkins played till the very end, winning a faceoff as junior Peter Kelly scored right before the buzzer.

The scoring would pick up in the second period, as Regis scored three goals during the middle 17 minutes. Collins kept up with the Raiders scoring twice, with goals coming from Poudre senior Lance Deschler and Mountain View junior Trae Campbell.

With the game tied at three, the Raiders scored to break the tie with 12 minutes left. The Lambkins didn’t let themselves fall behind, with junior defensemen Braden Kerr netting his fifth goal of the year and tying the game at four.

“I just thought ‘there’s another one’,” Kerr said.

After 50 minutes of action and no winner, the two teams played a five minute overtime to get one final goal to end the game. However neither side scored, resulting in the first tie of the season for both groups.

The Lambkins have had a strong season so far, sitting at a 7-4-1 through their first twelve games. Despite the impressive record, Collins has struggled to earn a statement win, as they have yet to beat another top 10 team in the state. Although the Lambkins now feel the tide shifting, and feel confident in their ability to compete with the top teams in all of Colorado.

“It shows that we can play a whole game which we’ve struggled with this year. It just shows that I think we’re still a top four team, even if we’re not ranked top four,” Kerr said.

Collins will look to improve their ranking as they collide with the 6-6 Resurrection Christian Cougars on Friday, February 4. They also play on the fifth, facing off against the second ranked 4A team Battle Mountain.
