Fossil boys varsity soccer team defeats Rocky allowing them to take a step closer to play-offs

Saturday, October 17. The varsity sabercats had a well played game against Rocky Mountain, winning 2-3, which allowed them to take a step closer in earning a spot in the All Conference Tournament.

Sophomore, Blair Durand, played a spectacular game putting away two of Fossil’s three goals. Durand also had the game winning goal helping the sabercats end the game with a win. His first goal consisted of a great split pass by Crey Gonzalez to Blair on the outside. Once Blair collected the ball at his feet he beat Rocky’s defender, Austin Heath, taking the ball towards the goal. Rocky’s keeper, John Brown, came off the goal line but Blair shot the ball before the keeper got to him.

Dominic Gibson, currently a junior at Fossil playing center mid for the team, kept the midfield organized and created many scoring opportunities. Gibson used skillful tactics to put away the second goal of the game. Gibson carried the ball from half field to the top of the 18”, beating Rocky’s defense. When he got to the 18” he took a powerful shot that hit the back of the net, unstoppable for Brown.

At half the score was tied 2-2, both teams playing with high intensity so they could pull out a win. Ten minutes into the second half, Blair Durand scored the third goal for Fossil putting them in the lead 3-2. Very similar to his first goal, Durand used his speed and composure to put the goal in the back of the net. Crey Gonzalez chipped the ball over the top of Rocky’s back line and Durand broke through the defense creating a one on one with Brown.
