Jamie Lawson: a senstation

Jamie_Lawson_(musician)_2015

British singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson is a new sensation, and after last week’s performance on the Today Show and his debut on Ellen about a month ago, it is apparent that he has grown in popularity immensely. Lawson began making music and releasing demos in 1995, and signed to a Operator Record Labels in Ireland in 2011 where he had some success, but his first real taste of fame came with his single “Wasn’t expecting that” which he re-released after signing to Ed Sheeran’s new record label, Gingerbread Man Records. In fact, Lawson and Sheeran have many similarities. Both have red hair, similar voices and styles, both write their own music, and are talented individuals in a music industry lacking some of the raw talent that they possess. Aside from being business partners, the two have been friends for quite some time, playing small time gigs together, before Sheeran became the very famous and adored musician that he has blossomed into. Sheeran never did understand why Lawson never got signed, however, and so when he started his own record label, who else would he sign besides his old friend Jamie Lawson? His single “Wasn’t expecting that” deserves the attention, as it is sad and cute and basically the song version of a rom-com (romantic comedy) like the Notebook or something of the likes. Check out his video on YouTube here if you are interested in shedding a few tears. Furthermore, wait expectantly for his tour to come to the United States, as his January tour is only in Europe, but he is coming to the First Bank Center on Feb. 1, 2016 on his first tour.
