Last week, Regis took down the number one team in the state, Overland. This past weekend, Fossil Ridge took down Regis, proving that they are capable of beating any team.
Regis Jesuit climbed to No. 3 thanks to the win over the Trailblazers, but the upset loss Saturday night will likely kept them from a higher ranking this week.
“We came off of a loss on Friday night against Monarch, and learned from our little mistakes, and executed Saturday” said center, Colby Ripsam.
Multiple players contributed throughout the game which gave them the opportunity to take a win in the last second of the game. The points were evenly dispersed for the Sabercats, Braxton Bertolette had 22, Cole Schilling had 17, and 16 for Jackson Everhart.
All four quarters where back and fourth, but with 12 seconds left, senior Cole Schilling hit a three-pointer to put the Sabercats up by 1. Regis drove down the floor, got fouled, and hit one out of two free-throws to tie the game.
The game ended by a last second tip in from Josh Grove. “I was just doing my job. I didn’t think about how big the outcome was going to be until the ball fell through the net,” Josh Grove said. “It proved that we are capable of doing big things.”
