Fossil Ridge High School cheerleaders had some cheerleaders of their own rooting for them this Saturday January 30 for their nationals send off. The cheer team performed their routine they will be competing with next week in Orlando, Florida. Students and parents supported the girls as they prepared for the big stage at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
“I’m excited to see all the other teams and see how we do,” stated Angelina Girardi, a Sophomore cheerleader. This is the second year that the cheer team will compete at the nationals competition. Many team members expressed their nervous excitement. Cheer captain Paige Matson expressed her greatest expectation for the nationals competition was for the girls to work hard and do their best for the team. “Even though it is only our second year, I know we will do great,” she said.
Nikki Rodriguez, Fossil’s cheer coach was concerned over the girls hitting their standing air and tumbling stunts. “I am very confident in our team. We just need to take our time and not rush” she stated. With devoted hours during the summer and more than twenty hours of practice every week during the school year, the team’s energy and commitment will be worth every second at nationals.
“We all have a lot of fight in us and I am really excited to be going out on the floor and hit our routine with all my best friends,” exclaimed cheer captain Bailey Coker.
Skylar Jordan, another of Fossil’s cheer captains stated, “The support we received today was great. I can’t wait to represent our school and show people how proud I am to be a Sabercat.”
Good luck to Fossil’s Cheer Squad in their national tournament.
