Being a Colorado native, and avid sports enthusiast, Drake Zuroski is the definition of the ‘average american teenage male’. Being a current senior here at Fossil Ridge High School, he is also making the most of his last few months here at Fossil, knowing that his finale with high school is on it’s way faster than he could have ever imagined.

Growing up in between Fort Collins and Loveland, he had a childhood filled with things to do; and those things usually included being active. “I did lots of rec soccer, then intermediate, and then Arsenal basically every year since. In the summer I would to summer track, 3v3, and explore the city and neighborhoods with friends.” Most of his memories of his younger years include good things, or at least not very negative. He can look back at the “bad” moments and see that they really weren’t bad at all. “The worst that ever happened to me was probably getting in trouble or doing something or saying something that was considered bad to say or do.”

The Zuroski family includes his parents, Barry and Linda both in their 50’s, his older brother Zachary who is 20, and his sister who is 13. His family has influenced him on what he thinks about, how he spends his time, and how he goes about doing things. “They have given me advice on how to solve problems, how things work, and how to be a good person.” The social aspect of Zuroski’s life, involving his family, friends, peers and teammates is very important to him. Things that make Drake, Drake include tons of activities, a little sarcasm, a lot of friends, and an interest to be better and learn. “I am passionate about getting better at anything I have interest in. Weather that’s photography, or sports, or even math. Just knowing more intrigues me.”

High school has been what he expected it to be like. He has had his share of stress, injuries, success, excitement, and many other experiences that have overall ended up being positive. “Senior year has been a major highlight of high school, even though it’s not over. The part I will miss will be the connections I’ve made in high school. I know people that go to schools all over Colorado, especially northern Colorado. I’ve meet people through events, other friends, and school that I’ve kept in touch with and still know after many years. I hope I don’t lose too many of these connections because there are tons of awesome people in Colorado that I hope to see again.” Drake is, to put it simply, the kind of person that you can’t help but smile when you see. He always has a smart comment or a sarcastic jab to throw at you, and without trying can turn your frown upside down.

His future plans involve going to a college in Colorado or a state near Colorado. He doesn’t yet know exactly where this will land him, but he has looked heavily into civil engineering, and also pharmacy as his majors. He isn’t sure if he will be continuing any sports at the collegiate level, but isn’t too worried about where he’ll be after he graduates. “I don’t have huge future plans, partly because I am trying to focus on what matters now, but also because I’ll get there when I get there, wherever there is.”
