Off season practice usually start within two weeks of the end of season and includes weight lifting, plyo. and cardio. The team hosts a one to two a week practice schedule after season where everyone is invited to come shoot around and play some pickup. A large majority of the team participates in a training program outside of team training with Jason Halsey the Owner of Peak Performance. This previous summer 15 out of the 30 players trained six days a week for two hours a day improving their strength, core and endurance for the upcoming season.
Summer basketball officially commences the end of May and tournaments begin in June. The girls are known for attending local tournaments such as CSU, CU, Metro and UNC. The head coach often takes the varsity on an out of state tournament as well. In the past the team has visited Florida, Missouri and Washington. The entire month of June is dedicated to basketball for the majority of the Fossil players. After summer season ends it is common for players to join traveling club teams for the rest of the summer where they travel around the US playing the best competition.
A regular season practice normally begins with individual shooting for 10-20 minutes, stretching and then layup lines for ten additional minutes. The coach then talks about the upcoming week, and any different events that are happening. The coach then splits the program in half for a scrimmage drill for the next 10-15 minutes. Afterwards the team usually disperse into dribbling drills and then partner shooting or shooting competitions for the next 20 mins. Afterwards the varsity usually goes over plays for the next game and practices against the junior varsity for the next forty minutes. The team then scrimmages until the last 15 minutes of practice when the team conditions.
The coaching staff prides themselves on being a family on and off the court. Because of this, the players can be seen together often outside of practice. The varsity holds team dinners before home games at alternating player’s homes.
They had a team Christmas dinner and gift exchange this year as well.

This is the closest team Fossil has had in a long time and the connections are evident with a set of cousins and three sets of sisters.
The basketball team practices constantly throughout the year, in or out of season. Rigorous weight lifting, running and shooting workouts throughout the summer keep the players in shape for the six month season where the girls will play a total of 27 games this year.
