The Poudre School District’s athletic director Ron Alexander gave a big announcement to the Fort Collins community on Monday afternoon. Fossil Ridge High school will have a new head football coach; Zak Bigelow. Bigelow will be moving here with his wife, Denise Kintzley, who is due with the birth their first child later this week.
Bigelow a former kicker for the Northern Colorado Bears likes to call Ft. Collins “The greatest city in the world.” Previous to taking the head coaching job with the Cats, Bigelow was the assistant director of operations at Oregon State from 2015-16.
Coming from Littleton, CO where he attended Dakota Ridge, Bigelow played from 2006-09 at UNC.
Ron Alexander states: “Zak was chosen from an outstanding pool of candidates that applied for this position. The combination of Zak’s character, passion, leadership and wealth of football experience led the hiring committee and myself to choose Zak as the next leader of the SaberCat football program. As impressive as Zak is on the field, he is even more impressive as a leader of young people. We are pleased to have Zak as a part of the PSD family.”
After becoming a three year letter winner at UNC he was a graduate assistant at the University of Tulsa.
Nick Edridge a current junior, and all conference varsity player is excited about the new coach. “I haven’t met him in person yet. We have talked on the phone and he seems like a really cool guy. It was hard losing Tinker.” Nick states. “He made our team a team and pushed us to be a family. Although we miss him, Zak will bring another aspect of the game to our team. He brings a lot of good energy and knows what the next level is like because he has coached at multiple colleges and played.”
The coach has delayed their arrival because of the birth of his first child, but the new family is expected to move to Fort Collins early this summer to begin summer training with the 2016-17 SaberCats football team.
