On Monday, October 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 Fossil Ridge High School held it’s annual peach fuzz volleyball tournament. It was a heated competition composed of 10 teams composed of people from the same grade. Each round lasted 10 minutes and there was no losers bracket. Once a team lost they were out permanently. That didn’t stop the teams from continuing the fun in the small gym however. The teams that were out first were quick to set up the other volleyball nets in the other gym to play for fun.

The winning team called themselves the ‘cream squad’. This junior team consisted of Riley Jones, Kevin Simpson, Chase McCoy, Ryan Yu, Dan Sutton, and Dillon Johnson. They played ‘feach puzz’ first and the moved into the second round where they played the ‘bravehearts’. The final round was was between ‘spiked punch’ and ‘cream squad’. Cream squad pulled it out at the last minute. They won 15 to 14. Jones was not new to this event, but he actually brought home the win this year; last year his team was eliminated in the first round. After winning, Jones and his team agreed, “It always feels good to win.”

This event was set up by Student council. The committee has been working on all these homecoming events since the beginning of the year. They always see very positive feedback from this event. According to Maddie Grigg, “Powder Puff and Peach Fuzz have the fastest sign ups because they are the most unique. Boys don’t really get to play volleyball competitively just like girls don’t really play football competitively.” It was a fun night and Fossil will hopefully see it again next year. Homecoming week is off to a fantastic start.
