Sabercats getcha’ head in the game, the boys varsity basketball team is going to bring the heat this year. After a solid season in 2015, with a (9-3) record in league play and (17-8) overall, they are gearing up to raise the bar, and are ambitiously hoping to land themselves in a strong seed in playoffs.  

During the week of November 7, a number of Fossil students attended 4 days of rigorous tryouts, landing them a spot on one of the four teams: varsity, junior varsity, C or D. With a handful returning varsity players, one of them stood out, but with his reputation and previous season’s stats, that isn’t too surprising.  

If that quick description doesn’t ring a bell, maybe his name will help. Braxton Bertolette was one of Fossil’s most valuable players last season leading the team in playing minutes and in steals (30), and averaging 23.6 points per game. With his raw talent along with his snow white hair, he doesn’t even have to try to stand out. With that said, he wasn’t the only familiar face; former players Mike Schilling, Andrew Schimmels, and Cam Dehart are all back and ready to play.

Take your face paint out, bring your posters, and get ready to cheer on the boys as they head into regular season play. Tuesday, December 13 marks their first home game vs Mountain Vista at 6:30 pm. Make sure you’re there as they take on the Golden Eagles.
