Beginning on Wednesday, May 3 and concluding on Friday, May 5, the Fossil Ridge High School track and field team competed in the Front Range League Conference Meet at French Field. The boys team placed third overall with a total of 86 points and the girls team placed fifth with a total of 66.5 points.
The standout athletes that represented the Fossil Ridge team in their events by placing in the top four include: Jared Brannen, Luke Brannen, Collin Aslor, Aaron Hargis, Kyle Biehl, Sheridan Davis, Tanner Robinson, Destiny Butler and Sarah Eastwood.
The Brannen brothers have been the hurdlers to watch this season as they consistently place in the top six. In the 110 meter hurdles, Luke Brannen placed first with a time of 15.25 and his brother Jared Brannen placed fourth with a time of 15.47. The two also both compete in the 300 meter hurdles. Jared Brannen placed first in this event with a time of 40.15 and Luke Brannen trailed closely behind, finishing second with a time of 40.62. The brothers continually push each other and that shows in their performances.
Another male hurdler that placed second in the 110 meter hurdles is Collin Aslor. He finished with a time of 15.30, closely behind Luke Brannen. The three athletes dominated in this event and completely represented the talent at Fossil Ridge.
In the field events for the boys, Fossil Ridge had a placer in high jump and a placer in shot put. Aaron Hargis placed second in high jump, clearing the height of 6-02.50. Kyle Biehl also placed second, but in shot put, throwing a distance of 50-03.50.
On the girls side, the hurdlers also dominated. Fossil Ridge had an athlete that placed in all three hurdle events: 110 meters, 200 meters and 300 meters. Sheridan Davis placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.25, Tanner Robinson placed fourth in the 200 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30 and Destiny Butler placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 15.47.
The girls relay teams also made an appearance in the top four placings. The 4×400 meter relay team and the 4×800 meter relay team placed fourth, the 4×400 had a time of 4:10.10 and the 4×800 had a time of 9:53.53.
Sarah Eastwood was the only field event athlete from Fossil Ridge that placed in the top four. She jumped 35-10.00 to earn her second place for the triple jump.
