Founded in 1966, National Organization for Women (NOW) has grown to become a force to be reckoned with, dedicating its efforts to intersectional feminism through its members involved in hundreds of chapters across the nation. Its main purpose is to “take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life.”
NOW has a Fort Collins chapter, of which many respectable and passionate members of the community are a part of. However, in order to empower and enlarge the feminist platform for young people, Fossil Ridge High School senior Eden Senay has taken a stand, working directly with the Fort Collins chapter of NOW, to create a division for high school students across the community. By meeting once a month to engage in enlightening conversation and “further our understanding of feminism,” Senay hopes to bring together an insightful group of like-minded, inspired individuals.
The group is not confined only to Fossil students, as Senay hopes to broaden the group to include the whole Fort Collins community and create a safe space for anyone interested. The first informational meeting was on August 8 in Old Town, and there is an upcoming meeting on Tuesday, August 29 at 7:00 pm at the Council Tree Library. Pizza will be available to attendees for $1.50 a slice. This sector of NOW is still new, so spread the word to friends and peers regardless of the school they attend.

Congratulations to Eden Senay in her achievement to create a division of NOW at her school.
This not only shows Eden’s passion, dedication and community service, but also Fossil Ridge High school’s commitment to empower women and stand for their equal rights.
We wish this organization, the high school and its great students much success!
