“College Signing Day supports the seniors so they can be proud of what they are doing. It shows the younger students and motivates them” said Fossil Ridge High School counselor Matt Murphy. College Signing Day was held during late start from 8:00-9:15 on Wednesday, May 2. This event was held for all the seniors that aren’t participating in sports in college, so they get their own day. Not only were a lot of teachers, counselors, and students there to support the seniors, there were also some college representatives from Colorado State University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Northern Colorado, Aims Community College, Johnson and Wales, and Front Range Community College.

The day started off with Mr. Murphy coming on the microphone, and calling up seniors one at a time. When a senior came up, they told Mr. Murphy their name, what their plans were for next year, and what they were studying. Mr. Murphy then came on the microphone and told the whole cafeteria about that student. He would then send them over to the photobooth to get their picture taken in front of the Fossil Ridge banner. Keaton Bentley, who is studying political science next year at Colorado State University said that the thing he is most looking forward to next year is “dorming with one of my best friends and getting involved in extracurricular activities.”

There were some special guests that showed up to the Signing Day. Not only did Apollo the wolf from Front Range Community College come, but Fang the sabercat from Fossil also came. Angel Nylund who is studying international communications and foreign policy next year at Regis University said that the thing she is most looking forward to for next year is “going to the university that my mom graduated from, it has a deep place in my heart.”

This is the first year that College Signing Day has happened and counselor Melissa Vasa thinks that it will absolutely happen in years to come. “I hope it will get bigger and bigger each year. We focus on the athletics and money and don’t always focus on the other students.”

College signing day was a great way for students to show off their plans for next year. This is a great addition to Fossil and a good way to recognize all of our outgoing seniors.
