Last week the Fossil Ridge High School Sabercats defeated their biggest cross-town rival Fort Collins High School and knocked down their first team on their road to city champions. Taking on Rocky Mountain High School proved a struggle in the beginning, but the Lobos could not keep up with the powerhouse team that is Fossil. After four intense sets, the Sabercats knocked down one more team and won with three sets to one.

Despite taking and maintaining the lead for the duration of the first set, Fossil fell flat in the final points. As the set went on the Sabercats kept climbing the scoreboard with Rocky never too far behind, but after two set points, the Lobos took the set 27-25.

Following the loss of their first set Fossil stepped onto the court for their second set determined to take back the game. Senior captain, Riley Zuhn, dominated in the second set scoring on her powerful spikes to put the Sabercats higher on the scoreboard. Rocky trailed on three points behind when Fossil took the second set 25-22, tying the teams with one set each.

The final two sets were quick, as the Sabercats fell back into their groove and showed the Lobos that no matter whose house they were in they would win. The star player throughout the game, and especially in the final two sets, was Peyton Dunn. Dunn’s blocks and spikes kept the Sabercats in the lead and the talented sophomore is definitely a player to watch. The third set ended 25-14 and the fourth set ended 25-17, which made Fossil victorious in their second in-town rivalry game.

Next time the Sabercats play at home will be Tuesday, September 25 against Boulder High School in the Fossil main gym at 6:30 P.M.
