Two undefeated Poudre School District teams competed in their first in-season game on Tuesday, December 4. The Fossil Ridge High School boys basketball team lost to Poudre High School. Although the final score was 65-72, the Sabercats fought hard through the entire game. As this is a cross-town rival, both the players and fans emotions ran high the entire game.

The game started off slow for the Sabercats, as they had some trouble putting the ball in the hoop. As the game progressed Fossil became more comfortable and started to put points up on the board. The score throughout the first half was always within a couple of points, Poudre was starting to panic and started to lose control of the game. Towards the top of the third quarter, Fossil gained the lead with a score of 30-29. This lead would last just until the last bit of the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, as the time on the scoreboard ran down Fossil began to lose control of the game. A couple of unexpected three-pointers from Poudre seemed to give the Impalas a second wind. Before the Sabercats realized what had happened, Poudre was in the lead 43-49 late in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter flew by. Points were being scored left and right from both teams, but a couple of avoidable mistakes from the Sabercats cost them a couple of baskets. Even though the Sabercats lost 65-72, their determination to stay in the game could be seen from a mile away. Come show your support for the varsity team on December 11 against Rocky Mountain High School.
