One last quad and an all-city double dual meet were the last two home events of the Fossil Ridge High School girls’ swimming and diving team in 2018, and the girls swam to win both meets and go into 2019 undefeated. The Sabercats outswam all three teams and there were only three events in which Fossil did not swim first place for their quad meet, the final scores were Fossil 287.00 to Poudre High School 139.00, Fossil 273.00 to Mountain Range High School 150.00, and Fossil 276.00 to Monarch High School 154.00. In the all-city double dual the Sabercats scored 514.00 to Rocky Mountain High School 342.00, Fossil 581.00 to Poudre 276.00, and Fossil 585.00 to Fort Collins High School 254.00.

Despite an uneasy feeling at the beginning of the season for the girls’ prospects for winning the CHSAA 5A State Championship again this year, the team has proven not only that they are more than up to swim another State Championship but they also have proved that despite the loss of powerful swimmers they are still the best high school team in Fort Collins. The girls swept all their in-city rivals at the all-city double dual, a great way to end their home season in 2018 before heading into the new year.

While the girls have had an amazing season so far with the new year comes new challenges. Team members who have yet to make their qualifying state cut have a looming deadline hanging over them, and only five meets before Conference Prelims. The team has both group and personal goals to work for both in and out of the pool, but their dedication and work so far has proved them a team to keep an eye on. The next meet the Sabercats have at Edora Pool and Ice Center (EPIC) will be Tuesday, January 22 in an all-city quad meet.
