One of Mitch’s head shots

Mitch Hoog

Mitch Hoog came from a basic town. He has a basic background, he graduated from a basic high school, and he is now living anything but a basic life. Hoog, a 2017 Fossil Ridge High School graduate is pursuing his dreams of becoming an actor and is starring in his first big film on Netflix; coming out March 8. Mitch will also have another movie coming out in theaters worldwide at the end of 2019 called Harriet; a biographical piece based on Harriet Tubman. He will be playing the slave owner’s son. He has a few other projects in the future but can not say much about them just yet. He is just now getting to a place after four years where he has been given the opportunity for amazing projects, so he is very excited and grateful for 2019 and 2020.

Hoog originally dreamed to be a professional snowboarder, but due to many concussions and injuries he became lost. “I was exposed to acting and the industry in a very abrupt way, so with that being said it was very easy to fall into the pitfalls of Hollywood being eighteen and all on my own away from family for the first time,” says Hoog.

Hoog says the part he enjoys most of being in the acting industry is the traveling. He believes staying in one place when you are young is harmful to the mind. When asked what he does not like about the industry, he said living out of a suitcase. He thinks it is also a weird experience to work for so long during the day. He gets up at 5:30 a.m. to go to the set and immediately goes into hair and makeup. There are times that he doesn’t see the sun for three to four days because he is on set or in the trailers.

Hoog got involved in the acting world because his cousin was in the Industry so he knew about film and TV growing up. Some of Hoog’s family lived in Los Angeles, and he believes when you go to LA it is hard not to think about film. He has always been a big reader and self-taught because “school never agreed with him”. With curiosity about so many things, he wanted to do everything under the sun and acting allowed him to do that. Modeling was different, he loves the medium of fashion. “The way I’ve always expressed myself without having to say a word so that came into my life from just pursuing it,” says Hoog.

He said that the acting and modeling industry has given him insight into so many things like painting, architecture, writing, music, politics, and more. They have shaped him into who he is and will continue to shape him into who he wants to be down the road.

“I don’t believe in the cliché of ‘a balanced life’ like everyone talks about. Life will never be balanced or even or perfect, there are stents of 6 months where I don’t see or hang out with anyone and that’s just the way it goes. Then some weeks I have off I find time to catch up with everyone so it evens out” says Hoog. He says that with social media, it is like a competition to see who has the most friends and the coolest life—which he says is not realistic. Although he does not see his family and friends very much, he does not have to show them off to know they are always there for him.
