Colorado joins others in petitioning to secede from the union

Image courtesy of wikimedia. Red states  represent states with petitions with over 25,000 signatures to secede from the union as of Nov. 29.

In light of the outcome of this last election on Nov. 6, the White House’s website has gained many new petitions filed by citizens of states across America, asking to leave the country.  Theses petitions have been developed by the residents of these states.  Among these states’ petitions, one petition comes from Colorado.

Within 30 days of creation, 25,000 signatures are needed per petition for each petition to be reviewed by the government and (as of Nov. 29) the petition to “peacefully grant the state of Colorado to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government” contains 22,458 signatures.

Most of the first states to start this are red states in the south.  Now, according to the Huffington Post, all 50 states have petitions related to this movement.

At this rate, it is not unlikely that the Colorado petition, created by Lynette A. from Golden, Colo., will generate more than 25,000 signatures before it’s deadline of December 10. The federal government may then respond to the petition.
