Sabercat Stories: Lauren Sears
September 20, 2019
Lauren Sears is a Senior at Fossil Ridge High School and is very involved with the Fossil community. She has not always lived in Colorado, she was born in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Washington state. She lived there for five years until they made the decision to move to the lovely, colorful Colorado. She lives here with her mom, dad, sister, and dog. Sears is very involved at Fossil with being the President of Photo Club and being involved with the National English Honor Society. Sears is also involved in sports and plays field hockey for the Poudre School District team as a center defender.
Sears’ family life is not very out in the open, but they are a very close and very loving family. Sears’ best friend is her younger sister, Caroline, who is also a writer for Etched in Stone. You can always see these two together whether it be at school, riding bikes through the town, or at home having tons of laughs. In Sears’ own words about her sister she said, “Ella es mi mejor amiga” which means, “She is my best friend.” Her parents have supported her through thick and thin by helping her emotionally, mentally, and however else they can.
Some of Sears’ favorite memories are with her friends and family. One of her favorite memories was when her family from out of town came to their house for New Years’. They have two cousins who have the same age gap as her and her sister. They decided to go see a movie and sneak McDonald’s in with them. It ended up that the theatre was completely empty besides the four of them so they were able to do whatever they wanted and just had a great time. A memory Sears looks back on with a glint in her eye was when her and three friends went to the fair last summer; I ran into her and I could tell she was having an amazing night. Nothing could bring her happiness down.
Sears has her whole Senior year ahead of her, but when she does graduate she hopes to go to Belmont University. She hopes to get a masters degree in something, it just depends on if she gets accepted into the university she wants. Sears has been interested in the arts her entire high school career, joining Photo Club Freshman year and now running it. Her number one career choice in the art world would to be a graphic designer because she loves drawing in general, but she loves it a lot more than “traditional” art because, “there is a certain kind of appeal that digital design has with art that traditional just can’t satisfy.”
With Sears being a senior I asked her what advice she would give to an underclassman and she told me that if she could give any advice it would be, “ To be nice to yourself and not worry because you will survive. You will find your place eventually even if it isn’t right away, you will always find where you belong.” So if you are an underclassman or even someone lost in life just trust the wise words of Lauren Sears. You will find your place eventually, you just gotta hold on.
