Hans Christian Anderson
Born in Denmark in 1805 Hans Christian Anderson is most known for his classic fairy tales like “The Little Mermaid” and “Thumbelina”. When he was fourteen he pursued a career in acting, and later graduated from a secondary school in Slagelse, Denmark. After his graduation, he continued acting and wrote plays and storybooks. He created three volumes of stories for children, which included more famous works including “Princess and the Pea” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. Although his sexuality was never public, he wrote love letters to both women and men, and had a relationship from 1861 to 1863 with Danish dancer Harold Scharff. Anderson died at the age of seventy in 1875. He is buried in Copenhagen.
