The conference season is in full swing for Fossil Ridge High School basketball, as the rest of their opponents during the regular season are against Front Range League opponents.

Fossil has dominated their conference opponents so far, as they have gone 7-0 through the first three weeks of the new year. In these seven wins, the Sabercats have won their games by an average of 34 points. No game better showed their skills than their 89-51 home victory against the Loveland Wolfpack.

Fossil Ridge has built their impressive 14-1 record by outmuscling and dominating teams in the paint. However, the Sabercats were able to spotlight their impressive shooting with 17-made threes against the Wolfpack. Senior Domenic Leone led the barrage early on, with two made threes through the first quarter.

“This game we shot more threes than we ever have in a game,” Leone says. “It’s not one guy doing everything, it’s everyone getting each other open and making shots.”

Leone has been the primary playmaker for the Sabercats, leading the team with three assists per game.

The team had an outstanding group performance as playmakers, racking up 22 assists as a team on 31 made field goals. These outstanding passes allowed the Sabercats’ top shooters to get open shots.

One player who is known for making shots for Fossil is senior guard Ty Brown. Brown led the Sabercats with five made threes and helped expand their lead past 30 points in the second half.

“It’s just getting all those reps up,” Brown says. “Honestly our shooting hasn’t been great for a long time, but eventually they’re going to have to go in.”

Brown has been a sharpshooter from deep all season, shooting 37% from three-point range.

The contributions came from all over the roster, with nine separate players making three-point shots.

One player who benefited the most from the team’s variety of scoring was Pryce Wyatt. Wyatt reached 11 points off three triples of his own, finishing third on the team in scoring and matching a career high for the senior. Wyatt spoke about the team’s ability to defeat their opponents with ease, as they’ve won their last nine by double digits.

“We’ve never underestimated our opponents,” Wyatt says. “We always view them as equals, no matter who it is.”

Wyatt has only attempted nine three pointers all season, making five of them showing some incredible efficiency.

Fossil Ridge will be locked in against Fairview High School (8-6,5-1) as they look for their 10th consecutive victory on Friday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m.
