Sabercats honor Senior Night in a wipeout game against Northglenn

On Senior Night and the penutilment game of the regular season on February 13, boy’s basketball faced Northglenn. Northglenn’s record was 8-13 while the Sabercats’ was 14-7, putting the Sabercats in favor of winning.

Since it was senior night Jensen Planansky was in charge of the tip-off instead of the typical Eli Hughes, but Planansky did just as well and managed to win and get the ball to the Sabercat’s side. Along with Plananky seniors, Michael Hadad, Eli Nutting, and Sean Purvis were starting players.

The Sabercats and the Norsemen started neck and neck, but one of the main reasons the score was close initially was that both teams had to start at 0-0.

Nutting and Purvis, who have the highest point average per game led the game until a complication occurred in the second quarter.

Purvis and another Northglenn player tripped over one another resulting in them being tangled on the ground. Both players prevented the other from standing from entanglement and anger,  once they were standing both tried to go after the other, teammates having to pull the two away from each other.

It got slightly out of hand, which led to a referee on the ground and both players being ejected and escorted from the gym.

Unfortunately, this did happen on Senior Night so Purvis was not able to finish the last regular game of the season. Looking back “I would have used my words,” says Purvis.

There were only a couple minutes left in the quarter so Fossil was able to strategize during halftime since they were losing one of the strongest players on the team. During halftime, the cheer team ran to the court and posed with their recent Universal Cheerleaders Association trophy after placing second in the nation this past weekend.

The Sabercats hit the ground running after halftime.

At the beginning of the third quarter Fossil’s coaches were shouting “we need him” and “let me see him” motioning to a cardboard cutout of Planansky. Planansky heard loud and clear and dunked, marking the first point of the third quarter.

The Sabercats continued to sink basket after basket, almost doubling Northglenn’s score. In the final quarter, Fossil slowed their pace slightly but the game was too far gone for the Norsemen to try to comeback.

Fossil won 55-38 in a complete landslide game, this marks the second to last game of the regular season and the boy’s Sabercats are now waiting to see if their season will continue into the playoffs, they find out next week.
