Annual Homecoming assembly introduces new excitement

The Fossil Ridge High School band’s pep tunes filled the gym on Thursday, September 26 as students settled in for their typical Homecoming assembly. It would be anything but typical, however, when Emcees Meredith McGowan and Mikalya Assmus played a special episode of RidgeTV where it was revealed that Fossil’s mascot, Fang the Sabercat, had been kidnapped.

Students gasped and turned to each other as Assmus led everyone in transporting to the Enchanted Ridge where Fang was being held.

Throughout the assembly, McGowan and Assmus needed to gain the five RIDGE value keys to free Fang: Respect, Integrity, Determination, Gratitude, and Excellence.

They got help from various student organizations to obtain the keys in trials that ranged from dragons to missing items.

When McGowan and Assmus located Fang, they were still missing the Excellence key. They called upon the cheer team to lead the “Do It” chant at the assembly, successfully getting the last key to free Fang.

Celebrating the return from the Enchanted Ridge with Fang in tow, Fossil’s dance team and varsity football seniors did their signature individual and collaborative routines.

To sign off the assembly, Principal Mark Barry congratulated the Ridge Reps for this year; Griffin LaPlante for Respect; Andrew Paddock for Integrity; Zamira Hernandez Calvo for Determination; Christian Cote for Gratitude; and Allison Nowak and Excellence. These five get free admission to Homecoming and will participate in various school activities throughout the year.
