Ridgebotics, a student led club, is all about being a part of a community with like minded people, all gaining new knowledge and experiences by being part of a team.
Sierra Hardy, a captain of Ridgebotics and a junior at Fossil Ridge says, “It’s the best thing I’ve done in high school”. They referred to it being a family outside of their family because of the creativity and community they get to be a part of.
Something Hardy is proud of is where they started versus where they are now, because of getting so many different perspectives when all working towards the same goal.
It’s now the beginning of the build season which means, “Working on designing, prototyping, catting and beginning manufacturing of our 2025 robot”, Hardy says. This year there’s a lot more freedom to the design of the robot, so getting everyone’s ideas can be challenging.
Any student is free to join at any time and no experience is required, but the best time to join would be during the off season, which is August through December, for more one on one time and it would be less fast paced. During the off-season, meetings would be Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm to 6pm in room 213.
Even in the off season there are still fun things to do. “We build chassis and drive trains”, and “other smaller projects to assist throughout the season”, Hardy says.
Build season is January through March, which would be 4pm to 8pm every day after school,4pm to 10pm on Fridays, and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays. Meetings still continue March through the end of the school year.
Events that are coming up are a robot reveal night and a silent auction fundraiser on February 20, from 6pm to 8:30pm. Also, Utah regionals are coming up soon on February 8 to March 2 in Salt Lake City. Denver regionals occur March 21 through the 23.
