FRHS girls’ swimming: City meet

Last year Fossil Ridge High School girls swim team competed and won the state tournament, holding the standards high for the years to come. This 2012- 2013 season the standards are getting met. FRHS’ most recent meet was the city meet at EPIC held on Tuesday, Jan. 15. This meet determined what places the team and its swimmers will get at the conference, regional, and eventually the state tournament also at EPIC in late February. The meet was between all four city schools.

Under the coaching staff of Carolyn Fries and Mark Morehouse; FRHS came in first place with 748 points while second place Fort Collins High School received 537 points. The last regular season meet before conference and the state meet is at VMAC on Jan. 24th.

Some key swimmers of the meet were sophomores Bailey Nero, Riley Hoffman, and Quinn Fawcett, and senior Rhianna Williams. They all are contending for the state meet with the times they swam at the city meet.

The first event of the meet was the 200 yard Medley Relay. Both of the relay teams made qualifying times for state. The first team: Emilee Dinkel, Sammie Guay, Bailey Nero, and Rhianna Williams, had a time of 1:49.98. The third place team was: Mackenzie Eubank, Julia Gorham, Rachel French, and Natalia Suarez, with a time of 2:01.69.

In the 200 yard IM Sammy Guay received first and a state qualifying time with 2:11.38. In the 50 yard free Rhianna Williams took first place with a 24.17. Her team was behind her as second place was taken by Jazmyn Markel 25.65 and third place by Emilee Dinkel 25.92.

In the 100 yard fly Bailey Nero finish first and received a state time of a 59.40. This was the last regular season meet before the conference meet Friday Feb. 1.
