Keeping the tradition alive, this will be the fifth year that Fossil Ridge High School’s Tenth Bass goes around the school to perform the singing Valentines. The money will be used to help pay for Tenth Bass’s music for the school year.
For the low price of $5, on February 14 during second period, Tenth Bass will go to each classroom and sing a song to students who had one sent to them. For $8 they will deliver the song, along with flowers and chocolates.
“My favorite thing is seeing how embarrassed people get. It’s so fun just because, it’s super embarrassing, and that’s kind of the point,” senior Tenth Bass member Clark Barry said.
At the end of the 2023-2024 school year Tenth Bass started thinking of song ideas. This year the options are “Take a Chance on Me” by ABBA, “Love you Like a Love Song” by Selena Gomez, “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, and “Die with a Smile” by Bruno Mars/Lady Gaga.
“We kind of just listen to songs and we’re like ‘Oh, we haven’t done that before’. And if it’s easy enough to learn, then we do it,” Barry said.
Singing Valentines is only one of the many things that Tenth Bass does for the school. Last year Tenth Bass went to Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) and won first place out of all acapella groups in Colorado.
“The people are awesome, we all love hanging out with each other and get along really well, and it’s just super fun,” Barry said.
Tenth Bass is supported by many people around the school and has lots of fans, especially Social Studies teacher Jacqui Sp8.
“I think the spirit of our performing arts at Fossil Ridge is infectious.” Sp8 said, “They make everyone feel better when their voices are sung out loud.”
Sp8 recommends that everyone goes to see Tenth Bass perform. A few times a year Tenth Bass gives a free performance of a song that they will be bringing to competition. The next performance will be on March 6 during lunch in the Performing Arts Center (PAC).
“We would love it if more people came because it’s free and it’s super awesome, and you guys get to see us perform,” Barry said.
