Fossil Ridge High School Boys Volleyball is in a new look this year, changing from the PSD Stars. Awaiting their season to start on Tuesday, March 4.
The reigning back-to-back conference champions are gearing up and looking to three-peat.
Head coach Brian Switala explained his preseason goals and plans for the upcoming season in an interview.
One goal that Switala set for him and his team is to win the conference championship. He stated, “It’s going to take some work and development from the players to get to the conference championship again.” Switala states “I think we have the right guys for the job.”
Switala also stated that the team has split in half from last year because Poudre High School has formed a team which contains kids from Poudre, Rocky Mountain, and Fort Collins high schools.
The Fossil Ridge team consists of kids from Fossil Ridge, Timnath, and Wellington.
A team from the last two years that consisted of a total of six high schools to now three made a difference in team dynamic but Switala will use his 29 years of coaching experience to help his first year head coaching for Fossil Ridge.
When asking Switala about some standout players or leaders of the team, he mentioned “Trevor Baldwin, a 4 year starter, Connor Switala, a player who has improved over the past few years, Luke Walder, an all around player, Shane Gerdes, a two time Libero of the Year winner, and setters Jason Mynatt and Joshua Lamsma.”
In an interview with standout player Trevor Baldwin, an in-depth look at how Baldwin dominates on the court, Baldwin said that he attributes most of his success to his love for the game, motivation to get better, and playing for his family and teammates.
Baldwin is a versatile player and said he could be moved around anywhere this season.
He looks forward to the start of the season and ending his last year of high school strong.
“I am excited to go out one more year and give it all I got,” Baldwin said.
There are high expectations for Sabercat Volleyball in 2025.
